Contact Programme for Talented Students
(In collaboration with Karnatak University)
In the year 2000, the Samsthe conducted a Contact Programme for Talented Students, exposing academically outstanding First Year P.U.C. Science students to university professors and laboratories over a one-week period. Twenty students from each district were selected through open competition, giving them a valuable, immersive introduction to scientific research and higher academia.
The programme was conducted across four districts under Karnatak University’s jurisdiction:
| District | Dates | Students |
|---|---|---|
| Dharwad | 22–28 March 2000 | 23 |
| Bagalkot | 28 March – 4 April 2000 | 23 |
| Sirsi | 29 Oct – 2 Nov 2000 | 20 |
| Bijapur | 5–12 Nov 2000 | 21 |
The experience proved highly rewarding for both students and university faculty. The programme was specifically designed to create genuine interest in pure sciences among young students, at a time when many were increasingly drawn toward professional courses instead.
